Point 17_^State the key elements we must include in your film opening^

Point 17 – State the key elements you must include in your film opening(check list)

·         To conform to the expectations of the genre you have chosen

1.       Make sure the soundtrack is suspense and scary enough to meet the expectation of the audience.

2.       To scared the audience, even right at the first screen of the film opening(special effect).

3.       The title at the beginning need to be as scary as our good role model – the film called “Se7en”.

4.       The background and costume need to meet the expectation of the audience as well.

5.       As our audience(Young Alt) would keen on looking at something unusual, therefore our film opening need to surprised people.

6.       Do further research for our audience’s “favour” of their scary films.

7.       Impressive Company animation

8.       Excellent soundtracks(right at the first screen the audience would watch)

9.       Clear design to show the title of the film opening

10.   The opening can’t be too dark or too light because the audience need to be able to see what was happening at the film.

11.   Stable filming that could make sure that the audience can watch happily rather than “Film sick” because the film may shocking too mech.

Point 13 – Audiences Research

  Firstly, I would like to show two bad film openings from two films which reflect the factors and element that put audiences down. The first one that I am going to talk about is called “Shibuya Kaidan”.

   Shibuya Kaidan:  

  Right at the beginning, the names of the people were appeared but it didn’t state very clear for the positions of those people and the video was only filming the traffic road for one and a half minutes which wasn’t the audiences expected.

  The next scene was people was setting at the beach around the bomb fire and without soundtrack which lost all the suspense feeling as a horror film. It was like a romantic or normal teenage film rather than a horror film.

Jack Frost(1997):

  The film was provided a happy and cordial feeling rather than a scary and suspense feeling. First of all, this was a fail. Also, including the soundtrack, there were also a conversation between a Child and an old man, again they sound too normal, just similar as a kind elderly was talking with his grandchild.

  On the other hand, the method that the film tried to show to the audiences were really bad, because the position of the people in this people were marking at the balls that hanging about the Christmas tree, which wasn’t clear.

And the following examples are the good examples for film opening’s study

Ju On The Grudge(2002):

  It was a good opening at the film. By saying that, there were three things that would impressed the audiences who keen on watching horror film. First of all, the basic sad piano soundtrack built a scary feeling of the film opening and the shots were excellent too. For example: the match on action when a man was making some kind of mark with blood in his fingers and the close up of the dead woman. 

  After a min or so, it went back to the afternoon that people were working at the office as a normal routine of most of the people would do. This made a big different between the scenes. This was also offered a good break for the audiences who won’t normally watch horror films and it could suitable for the logic and the storyline as well.

Sadako(The Ring) 3D:

  Again this was a fantistic film opening as well, as the first scene was set up at the water well which was where Sadako would take the revenge. The edited soundtrack gave out a good matching when Sadako was fell down from the top of the water well and the angle of that scene was really good by using high-angle that film from the bottom of the water fall.

  In conclude, the opening showed the key elements of film which were a lovely girl got killed and threw down to the water well by her boyfriend or someone that related with the girl and the water well.

Point 14 target audiences

  From what we have searched and looked in website called “https://www.uktribes.com/”.

  We found that our kind of audiences called “Alternative”, the group of people who doing things that completely different with mainstream lifestyle.

  Moreover, the more specific kind of people that we are looking at is called “Young Alts”. Basically, they would keen on looking at scary things around their life, such as Horror films. 

For what they wear:

  Bright, random but casual and without too much effort.(as we can see the images)

For what music they usually listen:

  The kind of music they listen aren’t most of the people would like to listen to. For examples: most types of rock, bands like Papa Roach and Three Days Grace. The phase to me means somebody different from the norm without trying to be…

These camera shots are very good.Because,in the first and second shots,they shows the title of the movie.In other shots, they shows the thinking of the  character,they also shows the horror feeling.They can make the audiences feel frighetend.

Point 18_^Create a storyline^

Our film is about:50 years ago, there was a lovely girl study in the secondary school. Unfortunately, She got acid burn by someone splash the sulphuric acid to her because jealous about her beautiful appearance.

Due to the sudden blow to this girl, she decided to suicide herself by putting her neck at the middle part of the rope of the hole to hanging.

The school didn’t have any special’s event happened after her death, until half of the century have pasted, suspense’s event have happened, many girls at boarding house got two or more scars at their face after whole night sleep, but the strange problem was the girls weren’t feel any pain when they were sleeping.

Meanwhile, the main girl character got a special visual skill from her psychosis, she could see the “murderer” and “her” appearance and her face was without any features, it was just looked like a block paper. And on the same time, “murderer” could recognise her as well. In this stage, who would win and who would lose, this is a uncalculated question!

I think,before our film begin,the advertisement can be 3 types.First,we can show some toys advertisments,so the children will like them.Second,we can show some  Fashion&Luxury advertisments,so the high class people will like them.Finally,we can show the car and the make up advertisment,so all the audiences will like them.It will just looks like the form in the left.

Story plot: Two ordinary people were walking the street, suddenly some ghost appear at the mid-night and tried to kill these people. Luckily, three buddhist mocks came and save these two poeple and destroy the bad ghost.

The film that we are going to learn from is called “Silent Hill Revolution”.

Eye-line movement used at the film when the girl arrived at the “playground”.

Match on action used when there was a man’s walking at the grass.

Shots:

Close-up used when it is focus on the a man was walking with his shoes .

Mid-shot used when it is filming a girl who tried to run away from the man.

Fast:

Straight after “the man’s walking” part.

Slow:

At the beginning.

Transition:

Good skill to learn to from this film, as the shot was filming between the man and suddenly turn into his foot.

How titles appear?

The titles appear by special effects with scary soundtrack at the beginning by change to cheeky joyful music later on.

Mise en scène

Colour:

It was basically using colour filming rather than black and white filming.

Costume:

Similar with “Cox boy” fashion.

Setting:

At the Forrest and the playground.

Lighting:

Obviously, it have had quite many extra light, otherwise it can't film very well at the light.

Point 8_^Reseach films from the genre^

The first film that I would like to talk about is called "Sleepy Hollow".

Basically, the film is talking about:

In the early of United States, a young policeman called "Ichabod Crane" was

sent from New York to the fledgling settlement of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of

ghoulish murders.

On his arrival, the town council informs him that the three victims were killed in open ground, and the heads had disappeared taken by a headless ghost that is supposedly responsible. Ichabod was unconvinced of this, but learns more about the ghostly horseman - it is the ghost of a Hessian sent by the British during the revolutionary war, and he was caught by redcoats and decapitated with his own sword. When Ichabod sees the ghost kill one of the town council members, his skepticism evaporates .He discovers that the horseman's ghost has an unholy connection to

In the film briefing, the sound is quite fast. It can show to the audience what will happening in the next, then the audiences will know what will happening before the next part. In the horror films, the audience can't know which character is the kindness person which is the evil person. So sound can help them know the attribute of characters. In this film, sound also make the audience fell frightened .It also can make the character's mood in the film. Is the character fierce,bad,good,kind,helpful...Sound can make the audiences know about this.

The second film that I would like to talk about is called "Insidious: Chapter 2".

Because if I wrote the whole story plot about this story, that would be more than 1000 words at the rest of this blog. Therefore, I would like to make really brief and this film was basically talking about the haunted Lambert family seeks to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world.

What we know about this movie(trailer) is the film can represent the typical type of horror film which is a ghost story.

What we can learn from this movie(trailer) are the basics that we can find in this film such as the scary/suspense soundtracks, something that we can see but we can feel it(ghost can't be seen by most of the people, otherwise scientists will study about it and it isn't surprised people anymore), good transition skills, editing and mise en scene.
